Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is a framework designed to enhance cybersecurity practices across the United States Defence Industry ecosystem. There are around 300,000 companies looking to work within this ecosystem, most of which will require some kind of compliance this standard.
There are primarily two versions of this standard CMMC 1.0 and CMMC 2.0, while similar in concept there are some fairly fundamental changes between the two for instance 1.0 has five levels of maturity where as 2.0 has three. There also is a large change in the number of controls that are being applied in both cases.
Depending on the level of information is being handled by the contractor company, a different level of maturity is required. The one maturity for instance be achieved through a self-assessment process with some basic guidance from an organisation that has some experience.
The benefits of achieving Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) certification include:
Contractual Requirements
The US Department of defence has made CMMC a mandatory requirement for certain contracts. Without certification, a company may be ineligible for these contracts.
Competitive Advantage
- Certified companies gain a competitive edge in the defence industry.
- CMMC certification signals to potential clients that the company takes cybersecurity seriously and can be trusted with sensitive data.
